My dislikes , After finding my own syringe to apply this product since it was missing from the package that I received. the product did not work like their video demonstration. I Followed the instructions how prep the repair Area. So I was making a repair on my Harley tour pack Made of ABS plastic. After grinding down where the crack was I applied this product as instructed. After the grinding the sanding and cleaning to prep it for this product yIt failed. It Filled the V grooves very well, but After two weeks the repaired failed the product Was supposed Bond the ABS plastic And be a permanent repair. We will do a second attempt to see if we have a different outcome.
Takes a bit of getting used to. For the drop method use a deep cup of powder but don't insert the dropper needle deep into the powder - I never got that technique down. Called the company for advice and Scott was terrific. I was repairing stripped threads on a pool check valve - the alternative was to spend almost a thousand dollars replumbing the section. I practiced for a bit then ended up filling each hole 3/4 with the liquid monomer, pouring the powder into the hole and using a very thin allen wrench to mix it. Could spray the screw with WD-40 and insert it to let it dry in the shape of the threads, but I was leery of bonding the screw permanently in. So I've filled the holes, will drill a smaller one and let the self-threading screw make its own channel. Tests have worked well. I'm optimistic.
Unlike the other review for this product, I found the PlastiFix kit to be an excellent solution to cracked or damaged plastics. The instructions may be a little sparse but a quick web search yields dozens of "how-to" videos that will show you in great detail the various techniques required to use the product. There is no "mix ratio" or "painful" process to use this product - compared to other methods it isn't even "time consuming". Simply pour some of the plastic powder into the cup and some solvent into the needle applicator. When ready, allow a single drop of the solvent to fall onto the plastic powder and quickly pick it up with the tip of the needle and set it on your repair site. The chemical reaction allows the mixture to dissolve and fill the crack or gap you're trying to repair - just be quick because if you take too long the drop on the head of the needle will soften and fall off - ruining whatever it comes into contact with. It's quick, easy, mess free, and once you get a handle on the technique it goes very quickly. With some proper sanding work after curing the part will be just as strong and look just as good as the original. However, as with anything, the amount of prep work you do will determine the outcome. Taking time to properly align and prep the parts goes a long way. Being careful to use a rotary tool to etch a "V" mark along the crack will allow more product to fill the gap and create a MUCH stronger bond. Large or complex spider cracks may need a few layers of fiberglass on the back side to support the repair. Simply taping the parts together and slathering this product on will cause you to fail miserably - you need to take your time.My only gripe is that you get relatively little product. A full kit used conservatively will probably do a lightly damaged (maybe 24" linear total of cracks)set of fairings. That number goes down drastically if you have to use the PlastiFix to rebuild missing parts or tabs. If you have a badly cracked bumper or fairing I would recommend getting the bulk solvent and powder from Urethane Supply. All in all 5/5. The repairs are seamless. This is not like Bondo where it will shrink, crack, or be too soft to paint properly. The solvent will ensure that this binds permanently to the plastic that you are fixing. I've used it on several street bike fairings including a badly damaged set from a TT600 that came out flawlessly. No complaints from me.
I’m in the process of restoring a 1969 Dodge Charger and it came time to do the grill. It was badly cracked in several places due to a previous front end collision. They do make a reproduction grill for this car, but the cost is $1500, so I decided to check the forums and see what other restorers recommended regarding a possible repair method. Many recommended this product. When it came in, I thought to myself I’d probably have to order 5 more kits to get this project done, but I was amazed how far so little product can go! I still have 1/2 of the one I ordered left! Every broken mount tab was recreated using this product! Adhesion was unbelievable. The visible cracks were sanded flat after repair and couldn’t even be seen before paint! The texture and color of this product was exactly the same as the ABS plastic used in the grill. The end result far exceeded my expectations! If you have rigid plastic that needs repair, this is the stuff you need! It’s world’s above using epoxy!
